Abstract

Battery performance is a primary source of user dissatisfaction across a broad range of applications, and is the key bottleneck slowing the adoption of electric vehicles, renewable energy, and longer lasting, more powerful mobile electronics. Moreover, advances in battery development are continually slowed by inefficiencies and missed opportunities in analyzing the vast amounts of raw data generated during testing and operation, as well as the lack of effective tools to process and analyze this data.

In this webinar we present approaches to eliminating these data bottlenecks, and we explain how to leverage your data to help you ship quality products faster using fewer resources. These data-driven techniques ensure safety and reliability in the field, ultimately turning battery performance into a competitive advantage.

Techniques at the cutting edge of research, including differential capacity analysis and machine learning will be explained, and we'll present case studies based on key stages of battery product development.

Key Points of Discussion

  • What key bottlenecks are hindering the development of new batteries and battery powered systems?
  • How to eliminate data management and analysis bottlenecks.
  • What are you batteries trying to tell you? Digging deeper to expose additional value in your data using techniques like differential capacity analysis.
  • Utilizing your battery data to maximize the performance and lifetime of your battery systems.
  • Case studies on data-driven battery product development at each key stage of the battery life-cycle: Research and development, integration and vendor selection, production and quality assurance, and operation.

Speaker Biography

Dr. Tal Sholklapper is the CEO and co-founder of Voltaiq, a battery intelligence software company. Prior to founding Voltaiq, he worked as the lead engineer on a DOE ARPA-E project at the CUNY Energy Institute, developing an ultra-low-cost grid-scale battery. Before joining CUNY, Dr. Sholklapper co-founded Point Source Power, a low-cost fuel-cell startup based on technology he developed while at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and UC Berkeley. During his time as a Materials Postdoctoral Fellow at LBNL, he successfully led the transfer of lab-scale technology to industry partners including Bosch, Ikerlan, and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. Dr. Sholklapper earned dual bachelors degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley, going on to producing five patents and thirteen publications and complete a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering in just two and a half years.
